On July 22 this year a driver on the 3900 block of 5th St., NW was shot, the victim of road rage. It is one of many crashes and sideswiping of parked cars since the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) removed a traffic lane and installed a protected bike lane in the mistaken belief that narrow streets reduce speeding traffic. But since the narrow design, drivers continue to speed and traffic congestion is worse. DDOT is planning additional dangerous traffic changes on Grant Circle.
On Monday morning, November 3 at 8 AM, on behalf of DC Safe Streets Coalition, residents led by homeowner Taunya Martin will protest the hazards created by narrowed streets.
Time and date Monday, November 3, 8 AM
Where: corner of 5th & Shepherd Sts., NW, one block south of Grant Circle.
DCSafeStreetsCoalition.org protests the removal of traffic lanes and the installation of protected bike lanes. It champions the regulation of biking and world class public transit.
