Residents in the Shaw neighborhood rallied today to protest DDOT Bike Plans for 11th St. and Vermont Ave. NW. NBC News4 reporter Derrick Ward reported the poor planning, loss of critical parking, adverse effect on businesses and increased safety hazards. See video here.
On the day the Mayor shut down 7th Street NW in an annual program misnamed ‘Open Streets,’ residents complain the proposed plans are dangerous and remove more than 100 parking spaces in a densely populated residential/commercial neighborhood, adjacent to the U Street corridor.
Residents complain their voices have been ignored by DDOT and by their ANC. ANC!B has scheduled a vote on the plan Thursday, September 10 at 6:30 pm by Zoom. Residents are asking for a pause in the planning and appealing to Mayor Bowser and DC Councilmembers.
